Privacy Policy
Effective October 9, 2026
AnswerOwl ("AnswerOwl", "we", "us") provides an AI phone assistant that answers calls you forward to it, takes messages, and shows you what happened in our web portal and iOS app (the "Service"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information: your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash) or Google sign-in identifier, language preference and plan.
- Phone numbers: the mobile or office number you add and verify, and the numbers of people who call your assistant.
- Call information: date, time and length of calls, call recordings (when recording is on), transcripts, the assistant's notes and AI-generated summaries, and names you save for callers.
- Voice recordings you provide: if you choose to create a cloned voice, the audio you record or upload and your confirmation that you have the right to use that voice.
- Settings and instructions: the instructions you write for your assistant and the numbers you block.
- Device information: a notification token for your iPhone if you allow notifications, and basic technical logs (such as IP address and request times) used for security and troubleshooting.
How we use information
- To answer, record, transcribe and summarize the calls you forward to your assistant, and to show them to you.
- To verify that a phone number belongs to you by sending a one-time code by SMS.
- To send you notifications about new calls and your plan usage, if you turn them on.
- To secure the Service, prevent abuse, fix problems and comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your call content to advertise to you.
Text messages (SMS)
When you add a phone number in the portal or the app and tap "Send code", we send a single text message with a one-time verification code to that number. We send these messages only when you request them; we do not send marketing text messages. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of further messages or HELP for help; you can also contact support@answerowl.io.
We do not share or sell mobile phone numbers, or SMS opt-in and consent information, with or to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile numbers are shared only with the service providers that deliver our messages and calls on our behalf.
Callers
People who call a number answered by AnswerOwl speak with an AI assistant on behalf of our customer. When call recording is on, the assistant says that the call may be recorded. The customer whose line was called decides how to use the resulting message, recording and transcript. If you called an AnswerOwl customer and have a question about your information, contact that customer or write to support@answerowl.io.
Service providers
We use trusted providers to run the Service. They process information only to provide their service to us:
- Amazon Web Services: hosting, database and storage of recordings and transcripts.
- Twilio: phone numbers, call connectivity and SMS delivery.
- LiveKit: real-time call audio.
- Anthropic: the AI model that holds the conversation and writes summaries.
- Soniox: speech-to-text.
- Cartesia: voice generation, including cloned voices you create.
- Google: sign-in with Google, if you choose it.
- Apple: delivery of iPhone notifications.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the public.
Keeping and deleting information
We keep your information while your account is active. You can remove saved caller names, blocked numbers and cloned voices in the portal or app at any time. To delete call records or your whole account, write to support@answerowl.io and we will delete the information unless we are required to keep it by law.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to recordings and transcripts requires signing in to your account. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep it private.
Your choices and rights
You can see and update most of your information in the portal. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to certain uses. To make a request, write to support@answerowl.io.
Children
The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If we change this policy we will post the new version here and update the effective date. For significant changes we will notify you in the portal or by email.
